Edward Breathitt

Early Life and Family

Edward Breathitt hails from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and is the son of former Kentucky Governor Edward T Breathitt Jr., who served from 1963 to 1967. His father's remarkable legacy includes not only his role as a governor but also his active involvement as a civil rights activist, working closely with influential figures like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and President John F. Kennedy.

Artistic Education

Edward pursued his educational journey, culminating in a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from American University in Washington, D.C. His artistic passion revolves around monumental bronze representational art, with a strong emphasis on classical realism.

Artistic Vision

During his time in Washington, D.C., Edward frequently explored the city's cultural landmarks, including the National Portrait Gallery, National Gallery of Art, and the various monuments scattered throughout the city. These visits provided him with a unique opportunity to meticulously study the works of renowned sculptors such as Daniel Chester French, Joe Davidson, Lorado Taft, Sir Francis Chantrey, and Auguste Rodin. What truly captivated him was the innate vitality and life force exuding from their creations. Despite technical precision, many sculptures lacked that vital spark that endowed them with energy and magnetism.

Artistic Mission

Inspired by this observation, Edward made it his artistic mission to capture the life force he had witnessed in the works of these masters. His artistic journey has led him to complete numerous public and private commissions in bronze, and he has curated a collection of limited edition bronze sculptures.

Teaching

In the year 2000-2001, Edward was honored with an invitation to teach at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, where he shared his valuable insights and expertise with aspiring artists.

India

Recent years have seen Edward expand his artistic horizons to India, where he has successfully established a studio and foundry in the vibrant city of New Delhi. This marks a significant step in his artistic journey, where he continues to infuse his creations with the vibrant life force that initially inspired him during his visits to Washington, D.C.'s art scene.

Edward Breathitt's dedication to classical realism and his relentless pursuit of capturing the essence of life in bronze sculptures have made him a notable figure in the world of art.
